Kaupapa: Karate training, whanaungatanga, cultural experience and representing our dojo in Japan.

Kia ora whānau,

We are currently looking at taking our tamariki and whānau to Japan from 4 April to 16 April 2027 for a karate-focused trip.

At this stage, we are gathering information and expressions of interest so that we can understand how many people may be travelling and what our whānau need to prepare for financially and practically.

This is not yet a final commitment to travel.

Nothing on this page is booked or priced. The itinerary, the flights, the accommodation, the training costs and the overall total are all still unconfirmed. Filling this in does not commit your whānau to travelling and does not commit you to paying anything — it tells us how many of us are interested, so the real planning can start.

Before anyone is expected to commit financially, we want to make sure we have clear information about:

  • the full itinerary
  • karate training
  • accommodation
  • flights
  • transport
  • food
  • insurance
  • training/seminar/grading costs
  • supervision of tamariki
  • fundraising expectations
  • payment deadlines
  • the overall expected cost

We will then use this information to develop a clear Japan 2027 Whānau Information & Fundraising Plan.

Where your answers go

Your response goes to the SRN committee admin only, and is used for trip planning — numbers, costs, fundraising and logistics. We do not ask for your income or any personal financial information anywhere in this form.

Our kōrero

This kaupapa is about more than simply travelling overseas.

It is an opportunity for our tamariki to experience karate in Japan, build confidence, strengthen relationships with their dojo whānau, experience another culture and create memories that they may carry with them for the rest of their lives.

We also understand that travelling overseas can be a significant financial commitment for whānau.

Our intention is therefore to plan early, communicate clearly, fundraise collectively and make sure no whānau is left trying to figure everything out at the last minute.

Once we have gathered everyone's expressions of interest, we will seek clear information about the trip and use that information to develop a realistic plan for our whānau.
